Meet Nyssa Zinn, Poppy Creative’s New Photo Stylist and Art Director!

We’re so excited to introduce our brand new Photo Stylist and Art Director, Nyssa Zinn! We talked with Nyssa about her childhood hope of becoming a surfer and how her love of interiors and photography sparked a dream-come-true career.

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I always wanted to be a surfer. Intuitively, even as a little kid, I understood that surfing as a lifestyle embodied all the qualities and priorities that make everything feel just right in the world. Being near or around the ocean is my life force.

How did you get started as a photo stylist and art director?

I’ve always been interested in interior spaces and how our home shapes who we are as a person. As an undergraduate, I studied design, photography, printmaking and painting, always in the context of buildings, landscapes and spaces. So the fascination has always been there.

In the beginning, I worked as a creative assistant, really learning the aesthetic language of commercial photography and the advertising world. Not only assisting senior stylists, but also learning art direction and creative conceptualizing. I worked for smaller companies doing creative re-branding, design and directions. I also worked with larger companies, learning the ins and outs from esteemed creative directors, art directors and stylists.

What sets you apart in your field?

Because my background is a hybrid of fine art, design and commercial, I bring a unique energy and creative engagement to every new project. I am used to thinking about projects in a fine art sense, so I have a patient understanding that the creative process involves critique and consideration.

I also merge aesthetic styles and directions to meet each new client’s needs. No one project looks the same. Rather, each has a tailored style that’s been thoughtfully and creatively developed.

What’s your favorite part of this career?

I love being a part of the process of making interiors and objects into beautiful experiences. Whether it’s a physical experience or it is captured in a photograph, these moments create a feeling of happiness, luxury and relaxation for people.
